Stanley Drive Box Culvert
Expansion

Doubling culvert capacity to protect emergency access to a new hospital - even in a flood.

Location: Menomonee Falls, WI  ·  Client: Village of Menomonee Falls (with JSD)  ·  Services: Structural Design · Hydraulics

Lynch provided structural and hydraulic design to expand the Stanley Drive box culvert in Menomonee Falls from two cells to four, protecting the access route to the new Ascension hospital. New barrels, aprons, and channelization cut overtopping risk on a road that ambulances cannot afford to lose.

When the Route to the ER Can't Go Underwater

Stanley Drive carries patients, staff, and ambulances to Menomonee Falls' new Ascension hospital - which makes flooding on that route more than an inconvenience. Supporting the hospital infrastructure program in partnership with JSD Professional Services, Lynch provided structural and hydraulic design to expand the existing two-cell box culvert with two additional barrels.

The upgraded crossing preserves the original lower cells while the new barrels take the high flows, with aprons, riprap, and channelization improvements conveying floodwater through the crossing and reducing overtopping risk on this critical access route.

The expanded crossing keeps Stanley Drive open when storms hit, which is exactly what a hospital access route in Menomonee Falls has to do. The project paired Lynch's structural and hydraulic design capability with a larger delivery team, a role the firm's municipal engineering practice regularly fills for partner firms across the region.

This project is part of Lynch & Associates' broader Waukesha County civil engineering work based in New Berlin.
