For the Town of Linn, Lynch investigated the aging box culvert under S. Lake Shore Drive and designed a targeted repair: a concrete apron and riprap stabilizing an outlet that erosion was carving away. The fix, permitted with the WDNR, bought decades of added service life at a fraction of replacement cost.
The box culvert beneath S. Lake Shore Drive showed its age - spalling inside the barrel and erosion carving away at the outlet, where a drop in water elevation concentrated energy. Lynch investigated the structure and designed a repair that extends its service life instead of replacing it.
Construction plans added a concrete apron and riprap at the outlet to stabilize the channel, dissipate energy, and stop the erosion - with permits secured and coordination handled directly with Town of Linn and WDNR officials. Practical scope, long-term resilience.
The repair bought the Town of Linn decades of additional service life for a fraction of replacement cost, with the channel below stabilized against future erosion. Structure investigations like this one sit inside Lynch's municipal engineering work as Town Engineer: find the real problem, fix exactly that, and document it for the WDNR.
Investigated barrel spalling and outlet erosion to target the real problems.
Concrete apron and outlet stabilization instead of full replacement.
Riprap for energy dissipation and long-term channel resilience.
Permits and approvals coordinated with the Town and WDNR.
